Bring Back the Essentials: Reviving the Basics of Balanced Living ALL 2025!

Updated: Jan 15

The month of New Goals and New Years Resolutions is officially underway and now is the PERFECT time to pause and reflect on how we approach our daily lives.

In a world buzzing with distractions and jam-packed schedules, intentional living has become a forgotten art. For kids and their families, small, purposeful choices can make a big difference in building healthy habits, fostering emotional resilience and creating meaningful connections.

This year, let's focus on REVIVING THE BASICS OF INTENTIONAL LIVING — one mindful meal, one active moment and one deeply heartfelt conversation at a time. Together, we can make 2025 a year of balance, wellness and joy for future generation (s).

1. New Habits

• Start with subtle changes: Replace one sugary drink with water, daily.

• Create a morning routine with a healthy breakfast item and 3 minutes of stretching.

• Use a reward chart to track healthy choices like flossing or eating vegetables.

2. Fun Food Resolutions

• Pick a "fruit or veggie of the week" to explore as a family.

• Host a 'Kid's Cooking Night' and let them help prepare the meal.

• Visit a fresh market to let kids choose fresh produce.

3. Emotional Well-Being for Kids

• Teach kids to recognize their feelings and openly talk about them.

• Encourage "breather corners" with fun tools like books or coloring pages.

• Incorporate mood-boosting foods like oranges, nuts or yogurt into their diet.

4. Movement Matters

• Schedule daily dance breaks or short walks before or after dinner.

• Turn chores into active games (i.e., race to clean up toys).

• Encourage kids to try new activities like bike riding or jumping rope.

5. Goal-Setting for Kids

• Keep resolutions simple: "I'll drink one glass of water every day."

• Celebrate progress with positive words of affirmation or high-fives.

• Use storytelling to teach kids about the power of persistent and consistent actions.

As we make our lofty plans for 2025, let's remember to add living with purpose and intention, to our list (s). By focusing on the basics of intentional living, we can create healthier habits, stronger connections and brighter futures for the kids in our lives.
