"Excuse me, did you say LUNCHABLES are bad?! đŸ˜©"

Say it ain't so!

In today’s fast-paced world, Parents of school-age children are always looking for quick and easy lunch options which often result in nutrition taking a back seat to convenience; and nowhere is this more evident than in the popular lunch selection of Lunchables.

-

Lunchables are “Go-To” pre-packaged meal kits for busy parents and hungry kids that include cheese and crackers, lunchmeat or pizza toppings, and a sweet cookie or chocolatey candy. But beneath the convenience lies this troubling truth: Lunchables are packed with sodium and may pose major health risks, including but not limited to, exposure to lead.

-

After analyzing two Lunchables kits, served at schools under the National School Lunch Program (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2024/04/10/lunchables-lead-sodium-consumer-reports-usda/73272198007/), they were found to have high levels of sodium and preservatives that contribute to childhood obesity, high blood pressure and other health issues.

-

But that's not all! Consumer Reports also (https://www.emergencyemail.org/newsemergency/anmviewer.asp?a=36232&z=58) revealed that this popular lunch item is far from nutritious and has traces of lead in its packaging which likely transfers to the contents inside. Even the lowest levels of lead exposure has serious consequences for kids’ health, including developmental and cognitive issues.

Let's do better...for their sake

While Lunchables offers a quick fix, the negative long-term effects on our kids’ health cannot be ignored or reversed. The health and well-being of our kids should always supersede convenience. Instead, we can choose healthier lunch alternatives, such as homemade lunches with fresh ingredients or pre-prepared meals that have less additives.

-

I know this is a hard pill to swallow but by becoming aware of the hidden traps and potential risks associated with these pre-packaged lunch kits, we can make more informed choices for our families. Let’s prioritize our kids' health by feeding them healthy foods that nourish their growing bodies.

Sincerely, your TRUSTED Health Educator
