My Mom has New Year's Resolutions. Can I make some too?

Updated: Jan 17

According to a recent survey conducted by Forbes Health (https://www.forbes.com/health/mind/new-years-resolutions-statistics/), 48% of Adults in the U.S. make New Year's Resolutions to improve their health, specifically through diet and exercise. And, unfortunately, sticking to this Resolution beyond February is highly unlikely.

But a great way for Adults to prevent abandoning Resolutions, prematurely, is to create Resolutions that include their kids; this way the entire family can benefit and keep each other accountable. Below are the Top 3, proven, ways that Parents can revamp their kids' health, in the New Year, while subsequently improving their own health and well being.

3 Ways to Refresh Your Kids' Health in 2024

  1. Get Outside & Get Physical

Kids who actively engage in outdoor activities like exercise, planting and growing gardens and participating in family-friendly competitive sports make for a more enjoyable fitness experience that will prevent chronic diseases like heart issues, obesity and diabetes. Also, cultivating a connection with nature and nutrition, through growing fruits and vegetables, can positively impact your kids' eating habits.

2. Give Your Kid a Lunchbox Makeover

Revamp your kids' meal options with environmentally friendly and nutritious meal selections like fresh produce and plant-based foods. Also, involve your kid in meal planning to help them understand the importance of a balanced-diet.

3. Log Off Social Media & Get Some Sleep

With screen time usage on the rise (https://ghrp.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s41256-023-00297-z), implementing days of “Digital Detox” can help balance and promote mental health. Also, improving kids' sleep habits by  establishing a healthy bedtime routine, can contribute to physical and cognitive well-being.

It's so important for our kids to be healthy because a healthy childhood lays the foundation for a lifetime of physical, mental and emotional well-being. Ultimately, the success of your kids' health lies in providing them with opportunities to enhance their health through adopting healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
