SPRING BREAK= The SPRING Season + A much needed BREAK!

The month for our kids' Spring Break has FINALLY arrived and with this "mini-vacation" comes long days of our kids RELENTLESSLY testing their boundaries.

During Spring Break, our kids will ask a plethora of questions but most specifically they'll seek permission to:

  1. Stay up, hours, past their bedtime.

  2. Binge watch their favorite TV & YouTube shows.

  3. Eat lots of junk food, all day-every day.

And like the reasonable Parent that you are, you'll rationalize that these are simple pleasures that they really do deserve since school is out for 1 WHOLE week and they earned a good Quarter 3 Progress report. But do YOU really want to mess up the seamless routine that you all worked so hard to establish?!

Let’s talk about Balance

What if I told you that your kids can do all three activities but in a way that keeps everyone Happy & Healthy. How? Well if it's ok with you, your kids actually can:

  1. Stay up 30 minutes-1 hr past their bedtime.

  2. Watch one of their favorite TV OR YouTube shows, per night.

  3. Have one junk food item, per day.

Portion control & doing it in moderation are Key.

Spring [Break] is on OUR side

It shouldn't be surprising that the weather and seasons play an instrumental role in our [human] behavior. We all know that nice weather and exercise can boost our mood. According to a recent article by iMOM, https://www.imom.com/spring-activities-for-kids/, being outdoors during warm and sunny weather improves our kids' mood, behavior, memory and overall health. This break is a great way for our kids to establish or re-establish healthy habits and to recharge before the arduous months ahead.

Here are the Top 3 Ways to make the Best of your kids' Spring Break

1. Still get proper rest: Our bodies NEED sleep to function effectively.

2. Exercise: Spring activities are a great way for kids to spend more time outdoors, play and have fun.

3. Eat the Seasonal "SuperFood" Fruits & Vegetables: Kiwi, Spinach, Soy (when eaten in whole-food form) and Honey are just some of nature's healthy whole foods that prevent disease and promote longevity.

These activities and healthy foods will give them healthy bodies and spirits.

Let’s Enjoy Everything this Break has to offer

I'm sure we can all agree that our kids have been through a rigorous year and they truly can use this break from school. According to the Southlake psychiatry team known as Dr. Messina & Associates, (https://drmessina.com/why-is-spring-break-important/#:~:text=When%20students%20are%20given%20this,so%20very%20necessary%2C%20especially%20nowadays), Spring Break is needed now more than ever to refresh kids' physical and mental state. So, are you excited for Spring Break? What kid-friendly activities do you have planned?
